Women’s Day Celebrations at Vikaas

This Women’s Day, the students of Vikaas PU College celebrated in a unique way by becoming #CyberSafeGirl
Cyber Crime is a global phenomenon which hampers the privacy and security of a person online. Women are often the soft targets. There are people who are on the lookout for personal information, like passwords, bank details, etc. Apart from that women are often harassed, stalked and threatened in the virtual world.
Cyber safety begins by being cautious of suspicious looking e-mails to protecting phone numbers in places such as phone recharge centres where miscreants frequently gather contact information of unsuspecting victims. These and many more such guidelines are highlighted in the cyber safety booklet created by Advisor of Vikaas Group of Institutions and cyber security expert Dr. Ananth Prabhu G along with entrepreneur-cum-social activist Vivek Shetty. The project is mentored by Hanumantharaya, IPS, DCP Mangalore.  It has also been recognized by CDAC, ISEA, India.
Titled ‘Cyber Safe Girl – Beti Ko Bachao, Cyber Crime Se’ (Save Your Daughter From Cyber Crimes), the booklet is filled with examples and real life scenarios that portray 15 possibilities where girls could be vulnerable to cyber crime.
This project is sponsored by Krishna J Palemar, Chairman of Vikaas Educational Institions. In the first phase, 12000 books are printed and will be distributed free of cost to the girls of schools and colleges from DK and Udupi districts to create awareness about online safety and safe browsing. In the next phase, it would be extended to the different districts of Karnataka.
Moreover, the precautionary measures to be taken for online safety, that would keep oneself protected from various crimes by building their protective cocoon online is also mentioned.
The content of the booklet was created after the authors discussed the subject with police officers, including senior IPS officers like Sanjay Sahay, Roopa D, Dr Vedamurthy CB from Karnataka, and S Murugan, joint director, DVAC, from Tamil Nadu.
A free copy of this booklet can be downloaded from www.cybersafegirl.com
