Drug addiction has emerged as one of the major social problems in most of the developed and developing countries and undoubtedly proves to be a major hindrance in the proper growth and development of an individual, society, nation and the world as a whole. Dakshina Kannada Police Department and Vijaya Karnataka Daily organized Anti-drug Addiction Awareness Program jointly with Vikas PU College, Mangaluru, on 27th July 2018 herein its Campus. Dr. Asha Jyothi Rai, Chairperson of Aasare Charitable Trust, Mangaluru was the Chief Guest of the function. ‘Say No To Drugs, Say Yes To Life’, so said Dr. Asha Jyothi Rai in her inaugural address and also advised the young minds to be an asset to the society instead being a menace in the society. She maintained that the drug addicts must be treated as sick not as criminals.
Sri. K. Ram Rao, Assistant Commissioner of Police, South Zone, Mangaluru, in his keynote address, said that drug addiction is weakening the very foundation of our society. On the day of Guru Purnima, he advised that one must respect the teacher as they respect their parents to lead a contented life.
Vijaya Karnataka Daily Sub-editor Sri. Ravindra Shetty, while addressing the gathering, advised the students to respect not only the soldiers but also the police personnel and to sacrifice one’s life for the welfare of the society. Following the speeches, the gathering took oath to fight against drug use.
Dr. D. Shripathi Rao, Correspondent, Vikas PU College, Trustee Sri. Koragappa, Sri. Pradeep T. R., Sub Inspector of Police, Kankanady City Police Station, and other police personnel were also present on the occasion.
Prof. T. Rajaram Rao, Principal, Vikas PU College, welcomed the gathering. The program was compered by Mr. Laxmeesh Bhat, lecturer in Sanskrit.
